Megan Veurink, M. A.

Megan Veurink is a recent graduate of Adler University with a master's in both counseling and art therapy. She has the skills and foundation of a counselor while bringing a unique and creative lens through art therapy. Art therapy is a language that uses both spoken and unspoken words to allow an individual to make meaning of their experiences and story. As an art therapist, Megan has the opportunity to enrich the lives of clients by encouraging a unique intersection of cognitive and behavioral processes. These processes allow the content of feelings and thoughts to be fully realized, witnessed and experienced.

We are all born with creative capabilities. Art therapy taps into our creative processes and helps facilitate communication of underlying thoughts, feelings, memories, and emotions that are not easily verbalized. Art therapy also enables fragmented parts of ourselves to be brought together and viewed as a whole. Art is not merely meant to be hung on walls. Art is reflective, therapeutic, hopeful, and meaningful.

In Megan’s recent experience at a behavioral health hospital, she has worked with patients of all ages and diagnoses, including, trauma, anxiety, depression, chemical dependency, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and disruptive moods. She utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Adlerian outlook to encourage clients to live and love in a more healthy and adaptive manner. Megan encourages a collaborative approach with her clients to identify and change their mistaken beliefs about self, others, and life.

Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, extended family and mini dachshund. She is active in her church community and and serves as a youth leader. In her down time you might see Megan getting messy with a new art project, spending time outdoors, and finding joy in the small moments.
