Angela Taylor Shields, M.A., L.C.P.C.

Angela's passion for growth fuels her work as a therapist. She loves seeing people become who they are uniquely created to be.

In Angela's current practice with adolescents and adults, common themes include: relational conflict/communication difficulties; issues of self-esteem; loss and grief; obtaining healthy emotional and relational boundaries; premarital and marital counseling; adjustment challenges and spiritual growth. Angela also does a great deal of work with women's issues, focusing on such areas as self care, development of a strong identity, stress management, post-partum depression and anxiety, and transition to motherhood. In addition, Angela specializes in the treatment of post-abortion related stressors. Angela has addressed post-abortion trauma through both individual and group therapy, and she is a community speaker in the area of post-abortion education.

Angela brings a warm and open approach to counseling, nurturing a collaborative relationship with clients and creating an environment where clients can freely express their feelings and safely face personal wounds.

"I admire the courage of my clients. Looking at emotional hurts is not an easy process, but the journey is so worthwhile. On the other side of the pain is a greater sense of wholeness and freedom. People are capable of tremendous growth, and therapy is a tool for discovering the potential of a fuller life. I see clients move from places of doubt to confidence, from shame to acceptance, from despair to hope."

Angela earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College in 1999, and she is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Angela joined Alliance in 2005 from a diverse background in both community mental health and private practice settings.

In addition to being a therapist, Angela is also a wife and a mother who values being part of a church community and sharing laughter and a cup of coffee with friends. Angela enjoys painting, fitness, live music, being near the ocean, and experiencing joy-filled moments with her three sons.
