Barrett McRay, Psy.D.,

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Director

Barrett joined Alliance in 1998 and has served as Clinical Director since 2004. His practice includes therapy with individuals, couples, and families. His clinical interests include helping people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and the impact of trauma in their lives; helping people who are navigating pain in relationships, difficult life transitions, or challenges related to sexual and/or gender identity; and helping people who are seeking meaning in the midst of their pain, a deeper understanding of themselves, or a way to navigate spiritual or religious challenges in life.

“For over 25 years, I have continually been amazed by the courage of people I meet in therapy who share openly about the pain in their lives with someone they have just met. I consider this a sacred trust, and I hope that my office is a safe space for those who come to meet with me. Life is difficult and filled with times of suffering for all of us, and we all need help from time to time. If you choose to meet with me, my desire will be to help you face the challenges you are experiencing in your life or in your relationships and to chart a course toward healing in those areas. And my hope is that along the way you may find meaning in this season of your life.”

Barrett also serves as an associate professor at Wheaton College, where he teaches courses in both the School of Psychology, Counseling, & Family Therapy and the Divinity School. He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and a master’s degree in biblical studies. He is a co-author of Modern Psychopathologies – a book which explores problems of mental health from a faith perspective.

Outside of work, Barrett loves to spend time with his family and with his dogs. He enjoys hiking with his wife, wherever they can find a trail, and working out together to stay healthy. He also enjoys watching sports of all sorts, fixing up their old house, woodworking, reading, and binge-watching good TV series.
