Sally Marcey, L.C.P.C, L.M.F.T.
Therapist
Sally received her graduate degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton Graduate School in 1997, after a previous career in business. One of the reasons she made this career transition was the enormous benefit that she, herself, experienced as a result of her own individual therapy.
She says, "I grew up a second time in therapeutic space. I have a first hand appreciation of how much courage it takes to seek help and to do the ongoing work of growth and healing."
In addition to postgraduate work at Covenant Theological Seminary, Sally has received her certification in Imago Relationship Therapy and has also trained with John and Julie Gottman at the Gottman Institute in Seattle, Washington. Sally is also a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizations and Repossessing) therapist and utilizes EMDR in treatment.
Sally is licensed as both a Clinical Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist. She has worked as a therapist for ten years, and has been in practice at Alliance since 2001. Her approach is basically psychodynamic insight-oriented therapy. She is very comfortable incorporating spiritual concerns into the therapeutic treatment.
Sally works with adults ages 18 and older. She has had significant clinical experience treating individuals who are coping with anxiety, depression, facing difficult life transitions, and complicated issues of grief and loss. She also has a special interest in helping heal from trauma and abuse.
Sally has two grown children and is personally, as well as professionally, acquainted with various aspects of parenting. Another clinical specialty has been her focus on assisting both parents and young adults with the challenges of leaving home and gaining independence.
As a published author with a special interest in the arts, she enjoys theater, walking tours highlighting architecture, and photography, as well as horseback riding, hiking and being in nature.
