Kelly’s passion for helping children and their families is evident in the strong relationship she builds with them and the deep respect she has for the parents and young people with whom she works. She uses a wide range of therapeutic techniques, tailored to meet the needs and developmental level of each child and family to help them manage the various difficulties they experience.
Her first goal of therapy is always to help the child or adolescent feel comfortable with the therapeutic process. Parents are also an integral part of the treatment process, and she helps them develop effective ways to respond to their child’s difficulties and improve their relationships. Kelly believes that a primary benefit of therapy is that children and families eventually feel competent and skilled to handle future problems on their own.
Kelly also has extensive experience conducting psychological testing and consulting with schools. She knows that testing can be a foreign process, in which many families end up confused with unanswered questions. Thus, her psychological testing batteries provide a comprehensive assessment of functioning. Her reports and personal feedback to parents and families are designed to ensure that questions are answered and parents are clear about the best solutions for their child’s difficulties.
Kelly S. Flanagan is married to Kelly M. Flanagan, Ph.D. (also a psychologist at Alliance). They have three children. She loves to read, run and spend time with her family.
