Kelly M. Flanagan, Ph.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Kelly joined Alliance in 2006 as a full time psychologist. He works with a wide range of individuals in various treatment contexts including individual therapy with adults and adolescents, marital/couple therapy, family therapy, and comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessment. His areas of particular clinical interest include interpersonal and relationship problems; resolution of marital conflict and communication skill training; treatment of substance abuse and relapse prevention; experiences of depression, anxiety, and trauma/abuse; and issues of self-esteem, self-confidence, and development of personal identity. In addition, he believes it is important to openly work with issues of faith and spirituality when they naturally emerge during the process of change and growth.
"The decision to begin therapy can be a difficult one, requiring a great deal of courage. I feel blessed to work with people of such courage on a daily basis. I believe that therapy is a place where uniquely painful experiences and the everyday hardships of life can be transformed into joyful growth and peaceful acceptance, as individuals begin to learn new ways of experiencing themselves, relating to others, and viewing the world. In this transformation, I emphasize genuineness, openness, and a deep respect for individuals and their struggles. It is my privilege, then, to share in the happiness when those struggles are overcome!"
Kelly received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pennsylvania State University and completed his clinical psychology residency at Hines VA Medical Center in Maywood, IL. He has been an adjunct assistant professor in the Wheaton College Graduate School, teaching a course on cognitive-behavioral theory and practice. His scholarly interests include the role of spouses’ core interpersonal needs in the resolution of marital conflict.
Kelly is married, has two sons, and enjoys reading, writing and the (too) occasional round of golf.
